A True Bauhaus Special

The NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update

The concept of Bauhaus design is pervasive throughout the model families of NOMOS. The German independent calls to this design philosophy with every piece they produce, a philosophy that prioritizes the human user experience before anything else. It’s easy to see in plenty of their models, from the Tangente’s classic Arabic numeral layout to the Orion’s purely minimal, legible design. But one of the lines that embodies these aesthetics and ideas perhaps the best of the bunch is the Metro.

The Metro line is a unique one for the brand, with its wire-style lugs and super clean dial. It offers something special, and for 2021, the brand has updated the watch once again in the form of the NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update.

Grand Seiko Nature of Time
The 41mm stainless steel case of the Metro Update really is a true 41mm, being a pure circle with only thin, wire-style lugs to affix the strap to the case. However, because the lug-to-lug distance is practically negligible in terms of on-wrist presence, wearers can rest assured that it wears impressively well for a watch that many would consider on the upper end of their comfort zone. It’s also a slender case, at only 9.1mm in height, so its wearability really is top notch.

The dial is a silver base with blackened hands and black printed Arabic numerals for the minutes outboard of black dots for the hours. The result is a very monochromatic aesthetic, further emphasized by the grey strap, which is broken only by the pop of red for the date indicator wheel at the outer edge of the dial. That wheel is a signature of all Update models, wherein two red notches frame a number printed at the dial’s outer edge to represent the date. It keeps the symmetry of the dial’s design, while also offering a more visually interesting way to display the date.

Movement

Powering the Metro Update, we have the NOMOS in-house caliber DUW 6101, the caliber found in all of the Update models. It features 27 jewels and a 42 hour power reserve, as well as the ability to set the date forwards or backwards, an uncommon trait in most watch movements.

The Damage

The NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update retails for $4,660.
