In this week’s episode of ASKTNH LIVE, Christian tackles the hardest hitting questions of the week from the watchfam over on our Instagram (*cough cough* @theoandharris *cough cough*). The first question comes in the form of what impact textured dials have on the dressiness of a watch and, to be quite honest, the short answer is “meh.” For some, it can be a huge deal, for others, not so much. This one has a pretty clear cut “Personal Taste” verdict.

Not so clear cut, though, is Christian’s opinion on the recent collaboration between Tag Heuer and Alec Monopoly. Ultimately, what we, the watch community, need to understand is that these kinds of pieces aren’t really meant to be talking to us as much as they are EVERYONE else in the mass market. Jean-Claude Biver is, by and large, so successful as the head of these major brands because he knows that success relies on getting the most people into your brand. As watch geeks, we’re already in and understand ideas of value and pricing. Joe Schmoe, on the other hand, probably doesn’t, and there are way more Joe Schmoes than there are watch geeks in the world.

Last, though certainly not least, Christian fields a question about the recent “increases” in Swiss Watch exports, and why that may not be as representative of a positive trend in the industry as they’re making it out to be.
