In this week’s collection review, Christian takes a look at the collection of a watch aficionado based out of New York named Jacob. Jacob’s collection is steeped in the world of vintage, featuring everything from three pieces inherited from his great-grandfather all the way to a Rolex Sea-Dweller.

In the world of the very vintage, we have the three pieces that Jacob received that once belonged to his great-grandfather. While two of the pieces are from brands that, in all likelihood, went the way of the Dodo as a result of the quartz crisis, there is a very beautiful vintage Longines snuck in there that is just the icing on the vintage cake. Beyond the vintage, we have three modern pieces: a Hamilton Khaki Field, a Rolex Explorer I, and a Rolex Sea-Dweller. Together, these three (the only ones Jacob has purchased himself) have formed the backbone of what Christian recommends he do next.

That recommendation, surprise, is for Jacob to go vintage. However, it isn’t the same “vintage is better” plea we so often give here at T&H. Rather, it is a direct result of Jacob’s already strong foundation in the form of the pieces he’s inherited. He has not only a love for them sentimentally, but a genuine appreciation for them that will give him insight into what the next right piece should be, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
