Fan Collection Review: AP Royal Oak, JLC Geophysic, Rolex Submariner

Christian dives into a T&H fans watch collection.

July 10, 2020

Today, Christian reviews the collection of a watch geek and fan of the channel!

Here’s what he has already:

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15450ST – Not a watch that he ever anticipated owning, but the funky grey, almost taupe dial and the 37mm case make it a standout among the Royal Oak line.

Jaeger-Lecoultre Reverso Tribute to 1931 – It’s really hard to beat this watch, and this tells us a lot about the collector we’re dealing with, too. It’s a refined, quirky piece that is every bit the ideal Reverso to so many people, ourselves included.

Jaeger-Lecoultre Geophysic 1958 – When JLC brought back the Geophysic line a couple of years ago, the watch world short circuited with excitement. And it’s easy to see why — it’s design is nearly perfect in every way, with a conservative but delicately designed case, beautiful dial, and killer hand-set. Plus, the antimagnetism plays into the watch being a dressier alternative to, say, the Milgauss.

Rolex Submariner 14060 – Another classic watch, though with one definitive problem — everyone has one (not literally, of course), but to us, it always means that it is just ubiquitous with quality and durability.

Omega Speedmaster 3590.50 – His first watch, it’s an easy place to begin and one that is hard to beat. It’s the watch that went to the moon and is still, to this day, flight qualified by NASA for all manned space missions. Enough said, really.

IWC Spitfire UTC – Finally, we have a classic dual time IWC option. It’s a beautiful execution of a classic and sentimental complication, and a really hard watch to beat if you’re fed up with the Rolex waiting list.

So where should he go next?

He mentioned looking for a precious metal dress piece and on those grounds, along with his desire to explore other brands, there seems to be only one reasonable option – A. Lange & Sohne. Whether the classic Lange 1, or something more simple like the 1815 or Saxonia, the level of quality and craftsmanship from Germany’s haute house cannot be underappreciated.
