Tudor has released a new version of their Black Bay 58 in a rich blue color scheme. This new variant pays tribute to some of the classic Tudor Submariners from decades past with this fan favorite coloration, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

On a surface level, this is the same Black Bay 58 that we have come to know and love over the last two years since its 2018 release. Its 39mm steel case is slimmer than its 41mm brother, at 11.9mm instead of nearly 15, and wears much better on a broader range of wrists. This also renders it truer to the original Tudor and Rolex Submariners of the past, which were much daintier offerings generally than the tanks they are today.

Present also are all three strap options that are typically found with Tudor releases. We have the steel, faux-rivet Oyster style bracelet, along with a rich navy blue calfskin strap with contrasting white stitching to offer some variety. Last, but certainly not least, we have Tudor’s famous fabric straps, this one in navy with a white stripe up the center of it for some added contrast.

Of course, the thing we’re all here to talk about is the new dial/bezel colorway presented in this new release, both being a vivid, refined blue. It’s similar (if not identical) to the blues seen on the Pelagos, and calls back to the vintage Tudor Snowflake Submariners that also came in this colorway. It’s a callback that is no doubt much appreciated, while also offering some variation within the Black Bay 58 line that was sorely needed to bring the watches’ superb size and fit to even more wrists.

The Damage
The Tudor Black Bay 58 Navy Blue retails for $3,700 on bracelet, and $3,375 on leather and fabric.

The Take
This isn’t breaking news, it’s another Black Bay. I welcomed its release, was gladened by its execution and I’ve already seen three on the grey market listed above $5,000. I hope Authorized Dealers work to curb the “flipping” by allocating these to trusted and passionate collectors, as I’m sure the demand will outweigh the supply quickly.

Blue jeans are the name of the game with this dial, with the denim blue colorway of the dial and bezel offering a serious standout from anything else in the Black Bay line. Of course, it calls back to the Pelagos’ blue variant, and it plays on the heritage of Tudor divers, but it also offers a serious degree of uniqueness that the line desperately needed. The pricing, too, at $3,700 on a bracelet, makes it one of the best damn value props there is, and a serious contender for a one watch collection if you live a generally more active lifestyle.
