In this episode, Christian gives his pick for best everyday watch under $500. An everyday watch is one that has versatility; which middle-of-the-line dressers can wear while dressing up and down.
His pick? The Hamilton Khaki Field Officer Mechanical for $395. It’s a solid build, a great design, and it dresses up and down smoothly with strap variations. The Hamilton Khaki’s black and white color configuration and simple yet interactive dial play off formality and informality equally well.
Runners up? Frederique Constant Classic between $200-300. Frederique Constant packs a big punch with this example – it’s a great design, a well-regarded brand, but there’s one problem. Its design is not easily dressed down. An everyday watch has to work well with a polo and jeans – this watch just doesn’t quite cut it.
Unimatic (any of the watches in the lineup) for around $500. These Seiko-modified watches are robust, they’re designed thoughtfully and practically. However, in direct opposition to the Frederique Constant, but facing the same problem, the Unimatic would be a difficult watch to dress up.
