In this week’s episode of RANT&H, Christian dives into an absolutely INSANE $147,000 chronograph by the good folks of A. Lange & Sohne.
This year at SIHH, Lange released one of the most beautiful, clever, and innovative pieces of modern horology – the industry’s first TRIPLE split chronograph. Now, the double split, or Rattrapante, has been a staple of high horology for a while now. However, the triple split is a totally new complication entirely, and one that Lange is clearly proud to have invented. So not only can it split the minutes and seconds like your “standard” split second chronograph, but it can also split the hours on a twelve hour subdial.
Here’s where things get super funky, though – this new chronograph is capable of measuring an event 24 TIMES the length of the previous record holder for mechanical chronograph time measurement which, as should be no surprise by now, is a record that Lange also held. It’s kind of like Piaget topping themselves for world’s thinnest mechanical caliber. So that’s it, then – Lange isn’t really competing with another Haute Horlogerie brand at this point. Instead, they’re just going out of their way to remind everyone why they’re one of the best, if not THE best, currently working in the industry. And y’know what? They’re f**king killing it.
