FROM THE CURATOR
The iconic Gerald Genta design of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has stood the test of time, but has not been without its subtle variations over the years. Take this, the reference 14790, a 36mm edition of the Royal Oak that is arguably suited for an even wider range of wrists than the modern 41mm version. This example also features a white tapeserie dial, the classic Royal Oak execution that is almost impossible to describe without using the phrase “waffle pattern.” It’s nothing short of impressive, and it is easily one of the many details that help to highlight the truly precise, high end nature of a Royal Oak.
And of course, it comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and appraisal and is shipped carefully and fully insured via UPS expedited service.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland. To this day, the brand remains family owned and operated. While regarded as masters of complications for some time, it wasn’t until 1972, nearly one hundred years after the brand was founded, that Audemars Piguet became the brand we know them to be today with the launch of the Royal Oak. This Gerald Genta designed timepiece successfully did something nobody in the industry believed could be accomplished – it turned stainless steel into a luxury case material. With this, the Royal Oak became the brands new icon, its new face, and remains such to this day.
