Rolex Datejust Ref 16030
When painted Roman numerals find themselves on a Datejust, it’s a Buckley. Named after a New York industry legend, these dials have always been rare birds but it wasn’t until the early 2000’s that the world woke up to their extraordinary beauty. They’re bolder than stick and wideboy dials and yet markedly subtler than the applied Roman numerals of the 80’s and 90’s. Buckley’s were manufactured in blue, black, brown, white and yes, grey. Needless to say, it’s a pleasure to be bringing this one to the public.
Backing up, let’s talk about the Datejust for a second. I’ll say it a thousand times – it’s the perfect watch. A vintage Rolex Datejust is one of the few material items that you can both enjoy for the rest of your life and, when the day comes, pass down to the next generation to do the same. A watch like this is never out of place – from Irish car bombs on a NATO to boring C-suite meetings on a cordovan strap, it never fails to serve you well, impressing the tasteful.
Dialing back in, this example, with its crispy steel case, rugged engine turned bezel and immaculate grey Buckley dial further proves that less is more and there is still, after all of those years, value in vintage Rolex. This is one of my favorite watches and I know it’ll never disappoint.
