From The Curator
Simply put, this is an immaculate and freshly serviced Rolex Explorer. So, if the Explorer has been a model you’ve long considered, this just might be your moment.
Backing up to lay some historical groundwork, the Explorer story started in 1953 when Sir Edmond Hillary wore a Rolex Oyster Perpetual to the summit of Mt. Everest. That watch, which was later returned to Rolex by Hillary, would become the foundation on which Rolex would build the Explorer line, an ever tightening bond between man and tool, to discover what might lay beyond. This Explorer, the reference 14270 does that history service. It’s a modern execution of that exact philosophy…let’s jump into it.
First, the obvious: a black dial with luminescent Arabic numbers at 3′, 6′ and 9′, no date, smooth bezel, and triangular marker at 12 o’clock. Although much more sporty and angular, this Explorer retains the fundamental design cornerstones of the model line. Powered by the chronometer grade Rolex automatic in house caliber, it’s a tank on the inside too.
So, whether you’re grasping on to frozen rock for dear life or showing your nieces and nephews how the monkey bars are really done, your movement perpetually charges your watch. A nonnegotiable, when it comes to tools, I think.
The Rolex Explorer reference 14270, is part of the old guard, just in a new kind of way. It has all the perks of modernity, scratch resistant sapphire crystal and a truly waterproof screw down crown, while maintaining all the truth, what an Explorer should be. It’s an heir to some of the richest history of the watch world, it’s the kind of watch you can wear, trust, rough up and always know that one day, your son or daughter will do the same.
And of course, it comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and appraisal and is shipped carefully and fully insured.
