FROM THE CURATOR
With Rolex prices steadily rising over the last decade, it has become increasingly difficult to find a sports model in enviable condition under $10,000. This squeeze has encouraged us to take deeper looks at some of the references and configurations that didn’t blow up, ones we’ve loved quietly. The GMT Master 16753 is a prime example of just that – a complicated sports reference that has flown under the radar. With some retail prices passing $10,000 (and understandably so), it’s still possible to snag one (this one) below. It dates to 1981 and not only has it survived the last 38 years on its original jubilee bracelet, without damaging its dial, but even more impressively, with its factory case finishing. Examine the listing photos carefully and you’ll find the chamfers on each lug, perfectly defined.
And of course, it comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and appraisal and is shipped carefully and fully insured via UPS expedited service.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Rolex is arguably the most famous brand in the world when it comes to luxury timepieces. Their brand equity is through the roof, and you’d be hard pressed to find another luxury watchmaker who can make watch geeks and non-geeks alike incredibly stoked. Their quality is second to none, and it makes sense that until this day, when someone thinks about James Bond, Magnum P.I. or Glengarry Glen Ross, they think of Rolex.
