There was a point in time, as many season collectors will recall, that Submariners of all variations were not worth their weight in steel, or the time it would take a dealer to sell them. As with all things Rolex, this has changed. It seems that every time a model is forgotten, its due for an explosion. That is how I feel about vintage Rolex Bubblebacks – they have all of the intrigue to warrant an notable rise in popularity and it’s just a matter of time before it’s too late to touch one. I mean, have a look at this example – notice the cloudiness of the yellow gold case, beauty of the matching hands and intricate textured bezel – look even closer at the stunning original Swiss crown. The dial has gracefully aged to a toasted marshmallow, or caramel, tone and it couldn’t possibly be more enjoyable to wear. While Paul Newmans are a ticking time bomb, there are sub markets waiting to flourish and Bubblebacks just might be the next exceptional Rolex watches to receive the love they certainly deserve.
