It’s one of a kind.
Once it’s sold, it’s gone for good.
In the world of Submariner homages, this Aquastar is a cut above the rest – there’s no doubt. Not only does the Aquastar name bring decades of rich diving history with it but this example, which dates to the 1980’s, makes their remarkable knack for execution clear.
Let’s break down the elements. First, it features a matte black dial – a total throwback to the vintage Submariners we love so much. Accenting that matte black, instead of green superluminova, we’ve got creamy tritium lume plots and mercedes hands which give the entire color scheme beautiful depth and character. Taking a step back and admiring the case is a pleasure, too. Not only is it finished with a brushed grain throughout but its defined by massive bevels on each lug. And the icing on the cake is that ghosty grey bezel insert; it allows the black dial and tritium to really be enjoyed.
I wasn’t looking for this watch, I stumbled into it. And I couldn’t be happier that I did.
